The Story Behind The Artsy Desi
Share
Like many stories in recent years, mine begins during Covid.
Back then, I was looking for an outlet — something creative, something grounding, something that helped me channel all the extra time and emotions into making. That’s when The Artsy Desi was born. I picked up my Cricut, started experimenting, and before I knew it, I was designing pieces that blended my South Asian roots with my love for art and crafting.
It was small and simple — a way to stay busy, to share my culture, and to bring joy in a heavy time.
From Hobby to Heart Project
Fast forward to today, and life looks very different. I’m now a mom to an almost 10-month-old, juggling bottles, bedtime, and my love for cooking right alongside my creativity. And in this new season, The Artsy Desi has taken on a deeper meaning.
It’s not just about making things anymore — it’s about creating with purpose. It’s about designing pieces that carry our Desi culture forward in fun, modern, relatable ways. Onesies with cheeky Bollywood lines, tote bags with Indian veggie sketches, personalized gifts that make people smile — they’re all little reminders of who we are and where we come from.
Why Relaunch Now?
I’ve realized that what started as a Covid project has the potential to be so much more. I want to launch The Artsy Desi properly — with intention, with community, and with a vision.
Because it’s not just about products; it’s about representation. It’s about giving South Asians (and beyond) everyday items that feel familiar, nostalgic, and proudly rooted in our culture. It’s about showing my baby that creativity and culture can go hand in hand, and that dreams don’t have to stay hobbies.
The Road Ahead
This relaunch feels exciting (and a little scary!), but I’m ready. Ready to share more designs, ready to connect with more of you, and ready to grow this little dream into something that lasts.
So here’s to new beginnings for The Artsy Desi. Thank you for being here — whether you’ve supported me since those early Covid days or you’re just finding me now. Your encouragement means the world.
